EGO (2008)

EGO (2008) for Bass Trombone and Poem (for Jeremy William Stones) was written on the basis of a poem "EGO" by Da Jeong Choi. The form of the music, which is in three sections, follows the structure of the poem. The first section is constructed out of pointilistic figures and pitch materials derived from the names Arnold Schoenberg (A-D-S-C-B-Bb-E-G) and Alban Berg (A-Bb-A-Bb-E-G ); these motives also appear in Alban Berg ‘s Kammerkonzert (1923-5). The second section contains Jazz elements and the third one is built on the basis of the motives.

duration about 7 min.

Do our minds create pain?
It could be true...
Catching everything that we pursue, our life is more painful
since we have no ability to take care of all.

Do our minds create happiness?
It could be false..
Giving other people things that they need, our life is happier.

Do our egos breed perfection?
It could be true...
loving procreates ability to embrace falsehood and imperfection.

Quote

“A man with imperfection can be more attractive than a man who is filled with ego since human beings are not made for completing, but loving and understanding in confidence.”
